NOKIRUMI: The Directions We Were Told Not to Take

There are instructions that arrive so early we barely recognise them as instructions. Finish what you started. Stop looking out of the window. Stay on the path. At some point, a practical request becomes a much larger rule: there is a correct way to move through the world, and you seem to keep getting it wrong.

NOKIRUMI begins with a little cat who zigzags. Other cats walk in straight lines; Nokirumi discovers places nobody thought to look. The difference is small enough to fit inside a story, but familiar enough to carry something much bigger. Curiosity can look inconvenient when everyone is measuring progress in the same direction.

The difficult part of the story comes when Nokirumi tries to become less. Less curious, less excitable, less different. That attempt does not bring peace. It dims the spark. Many of us know some version of that exchange: the room becomes easier to navigate, while something in us becomes harder to reach.

We wanted to give that feeling an image. A cat, waves, a red sun and fine lines that invite a closer look. An illustration with enough detail to reward the wandering eye. NOKIRUMI is a fictional Japanese-inspired character from Neurodazzled, with a story that belongs to the world we are building.

In the story, the turning point happens beneath the stars. Some flicker, some blaze, and some only become visible when the sky grows dark. Nobody asks them to shine alike. Nokirumi finds a way to understand difference without arranging it into a competition.

There is room in that thought for the days when being different feels difficult. A different path can be interesting and tiring. Curiosity can bring delight and unfinished things. A story about sparkle does not have to demand that we feel sparkling all the time. Sometimes recognition is enough.

That is what The Sparkle of a Different Mind means here. You can recognise yourself in the cat without needing to prove that your differences produce something impressive. You can enjoy the image for its beauty, its detail, its mood, or the small feeling of being understood.

The collection carries that character into everyday clothing and accessories. A front print invites a conversation. A back print lets the image travel with you. The garment is for whoever wants to wear it; the decision belongs to your taste, your comfort and your preferred fit.

Nokirumi eventually stops trying to live in a world of straight lines. There are too many interesting directions to explore. We like leaving the story there: with a little more room, a little less self-editing, and a cat who has somewhere else to look.
