When ADHD Overwhelm Hits, Play Bingo Instead!
· 1 min read

There are days when my ADHD brain completely crashes.
It’s not procrastination. It’s not laziness. It’s a full-body shutdown. My thoughts race, my to-do list screams at me, and yet… I can’t move. I stare at the same email for an hour. I wander the kitchen without eating. I scroll endlessly, knowing it won’t help. I kid you not. If you’ve been there, you know the mix of shame, frustration, and exhaustion that follows.
And here’s the truth: in those moments, no productivity hack will save you. Timers, apps, calendars, they all require executive function you don’t have. So instead of fighting myself, I tried something different. I turned my brain crash into a simple little game. No wheel reinvented, just a little A4 nudge to myself.
Meet my little Brain Reset Bingo
I designed a simple printable: Brain Reset Bingo. It’s a colorful grid with 25 tiny, doable actions — each one designed to give my brain either a spark of dopamine, a grounding moment, or a small sense of progress. Some squares say:
- Strike a superhero pose.
- Doodle a silly squiggle.
- Balance a book on your head.
- Take three deep breaths.
Each action takes under two minutes. The point isn’t to “get productive.” The point is to reset, to give my brain a playful micro-win so I can break the freeze. Row = win. Blackout = Brain Boss Level It’s silly. It’s fun. And it actually works.
Why Gamification Works for ADHD Brains
ADHD brains are wired for novelty, challenge, and reward. When we can’t get started, it’s often because the task feels too big, too boring, or too overwhelming. Gamification flips that script. Instead of staring at a mountain, you’re rolling dice or ticking off a square. The pressure drops. The fun kicks in. And suddenly, you’re moving again. Brain Reset Bingo isn’t a cure. But it’s a bridge, a way to go from stuck to unstuck.
